  1. Is it possible to use IMAP over a serial line without SLIP?
  2. It doesn't require UDP or any lower level protocol - right?

  4. I was thinking about writing a news client that worked in this 
  5. fashion (dialup to a host, telnet to an NNTP server), but I think 
  6. IMAP can probably handle the news now (right?) and is more ideally 
  7. targeted to this type of remote client.

  9. The advantage this type of system would have is that it would be 
  10. much simpler to install and configure the client on the user's 
  11. machine (no protocol stack, SLIP drivers, etc.) and it wouldn't have 
  12. the overhead of SLIP.
