- Is it possible to use IMAP over a serial line without SLIP?
- It doesn't require UDP or any lower level protocol - right?
-
- I was thinking about writing a news client that worked in this
- fashion (dialup to a host, telnet to an NNTP server), but I think
- IMAP can probably handle the news now (right?) and is more ideally
- targeted to this type of remote client.
-
- The advantage this type of system would have is that it would be
- much simpler to install and configure the client on the user's
- machine (no protocol stack, SLIP drivers, etc.) and it wouldn't have
- the overhead of SLIP.
